Created in 1988, the group is composed of four instruments: clarinet, trombone, piano and washboard. The formula surprises and allures by its originality and its mobility. More than 25 years of worldwide success have proved that this formula, unique in the world of traditional jazz, brings a new breath to the jazz world. Youthful enthusiasm, humor, professionalism, choice of a rich and broad repertoire (the Twenties and Thirties, Fats WALLER, James P. JOHNSON, Duke ELLINGTON etc, along with original compositions) and exceptional musical individualities are the ingredients of PARIS WASHBOARD. The musicians are:

Daniel BARDA, founder and leader of the group, is actually a conductor of symphony orchestras when he is not pursuing his second passion: traditional jazz. In this style of music, he plays the slide trombone with vitality and relaxation. A recent survey in a specialized review of jazz classified him as the best "New Orleans" French trombone player. One often compares him to James Archey, Turk Murphy or Kid Ory, three of the great figures of the American jazz. He has been awarded the 1993 "Prix Sidney Bechet" (best traditional jazz musician of the year in France) by the French Jazz Academy. His 150th album was issued in May 2013, a CD with Paris Washboard!

Alain MARQUET is a unique clarinetist. His style is in between 1920’s greats Johnny Dodds and Sidney Bechet: a round and colored tone with a very emotional vibrato, flexible phrasing always filled with fine details, all delivered with an inspired musicality and stellar execution. Alain also received the "Prix Sidney Bechet," 20 years before Daniel, in 1973!

Philippe CARMENT, piano, is already one of the best "stride” pianists in the world. His breathtaking playing combines technicality and precision with a fantastic physical and mental enthusiasm. His left hand provides the bass lines with such control that it is not necessary for PARIS WASHBOARD to need the services of a bass player! His idols: James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, and Art Tatum.

Charles PREVOST plays the washboard, a real washboard made of corrugated iron on which he rubs with thimbles on his fingers, combined with cymbals and wood-blocks. Charles brings wit and humor to his music, placing him among the best European washboard specialists. His musicianship integrates him perfectly into the group.
