Come celebrate music at Yocum Institute for Arts Education with this exciting monthly series – Jazz on the Avenue. With exceptional performers, an acoustically astounding and intimate space, the concert experience at the Yocum Institute is like no other.
Musicians: CD Release Concert, Mike Eben’s From the Hip featuring Marty Mellinger, Roger Morgan, Dave Santana, Terry Bortman, and Mike Byrne.
Mike is a saxophonist and music educator from Reading, PA. He is retired from the Muhlenberg School District, where he was an instrumental music teacher. He currently teaches saxophone, flute and clarinet lessons in his home. Mike also chairsGet JazzED, an educational offshoot of the Berks Jazz Fest.
Mike runs his own summer jazz improvisation workshops, and works with local school jazz bands to help them develop their skills. His 25+ years in public education, his knowledge of jazz and jazz history, and his enthusiasm and humor, help to make him an ideal motivator for school-age jazz musicians.
In November of 2006, Mike began hosting a jam session for student musicians. The RMF Project Penske Jazz Jam features professional musicians and educators from Berks County and beyond, performing with and giving advice to budding jazz artists.
Mike’s goal is to keep jazz alive and well for our students in Berks County and beyond!
